David Arthur Carter always tried to be nice to people, always tried to do right things and always wanted the best for others. So many times he thought about just disappearing from this world and never come back, and one day it came true … but that’s not what he wanted.
This is the story how he died…
Everything in his live become better lately. He hunts. His detective’s agency is quite popular. Even his heart isn’t a big problem for him. Hunter’s days are the same work, home, sleep, more work then resting in home, eating sweets.
He’s sitting in his office when old woman in a little weird clothes - she looks like a gypsy- comes in. “I need your help detective…or should I say a hunter.” Old lady says looking at David. “You’re much more than detective, right mister…um…Carter?” Hunter frowns at her words. “Maybe I’m more than just a private detective, but just maybe.” “I need you to help my daughter, she made a pact with a devil…man in a black suit … with an accent a little like yours” She sits on the chair in front of David. “That man probably is Crowley, but he’s not a devil, he’s just a demon and well King of Hell.” He murmurs. “So you will help me with the pact she made?” Woman asks and looks at hunter’s eyes. ” I can’t help you with it…she sign the deal…she have ten years. I can’t do anything with it. I’m sorry.” He whispers, even when he really want to help, he doesn’t know how. “Screw you! I CURSE YOU~ YOU DON’T WANT TO HELP MY DAUGHTER SO YOU WILL DIEEEEEEEE!!!!” Weird woman yelled and quickly left David’s office.
For a longer moment hunter looks at place where she was, then he shrugs and goes back to reading notes about his new case. Few hours later he decides to go home. First he falls from stairs almost breaking his neck. Then dog almost rips his neck. Next piano almost falls on him. At first David think it’s just a haphazard, but then more “accidents" happens. Piano almost falls on him, he almost burns his flat, drowns in bathtub, getting electrocuted by toaster, chocks on food. It’s not like he believes in curses … fuck …. he believes in it. David decides to find that woman. It isn’t that hard. She work in circus under name Madam Daphne. It doesn’t take him much time to find a good trailer. After long conversation with her he goes back home to find information how to help. It takes him three days of reading his books to find a way. It was harder to do it when all the time some small accidents happens. Madam Daphne said she will break curse when he will help her daughter.
After breaking the deal what takes two days he goes back home, free from curse, tired, but happy that he could help some one. It’s middle of night, city is almost empty and silent. He wants to call Cass but he realizes that is too late to do that. Hunter notices that something happens in the alley. Two guys want to rape some young girl. Of course without thinking David runs to help her. Carter is too stupid to think before he do something. He hits first one in face and pushes other on the wall. He takes girl’s hand and start to runaway. After few minutes of running hunter asks. “You’re okay?” ”Yes, thank you. I’m fine.” She replies trying to catch her breath. “Should I watch you home or you will be fine by yourself?” “I will be fine and again thank you.” Girl murmurs and quickly goes her way. Carter smiles at her and starts to walk again.
Few streets later guys that wanted to rape that girl attacked him. At first he fights back as best he can. He fights till one of them stab him with a knife. David falls on the cold pavement. For a moment he doesn’t know what happened till he notices blood, his blood. Criminals are long gone right now. Hunter calls ambulance. He tries his best to not pass out…but he doesn’t keep his eyes open too long. When he closes his eyes he sees his life…moment when his mother died…all good days with his sister…all days when his father was FATHER not a jerk who thinks he’s still in army…he sees deaths of people that was important to him…times when he smiles…times when he cried - and there was a lot of it- … and then darkness…
Paramedics finds body of David Arthur Carter - that’s what is on boy’s ID - at 4:27 am. He died few minutes before ambulance got at right place. They called two people that was saved in his phone at CALL IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO ME. Ambulance takes body to morgue.
Day later there is breaking in to morgue. David Arthur Carter’s body disappears.
“Don’t tell him about the hunt…” Gently he takes a hold of David’s free hand, then looks up at him with completely black empty eyes. “Don’t worry so much… It’s not the first time…”
"You know that I have to told him about it, what how I say that we end up here…me with probably dislocated shoulder and you bitten by vampire."
“You can always kill me…” Cass rolls onto his back, all the time he tries not to lose contact with reality, even though pain in his neck is burning and it is beyond being bearable. “Right…? It’ll stop the change…”
"I’m not going to kill you Cass…I’m never going to do that." He frowns and takes Cassidy’s phone. "I’m going to call your father. I know that he will be mad at me but we need help."
“Leave me…” Cass curls into fetal position, his knees drawn to his chest and hands covering his ears as everything gets too loud and too bright. “We killed ‘em anyway, right…?”
"I’m not going to leave you…no matter what…" He whispers. " Yep, we’re killed them…we did great job."
For the rest of way he does not say a single word, his head sways and so does his body, he can’t focus on anything so he settles for waiting. At the very first moment he is allowed to sit down, he lies on the floor not caring where he is. “My head hurts…”
David isn’t sure what he should do now. His shoulder hurts, he can even feel it in his fingers, with his jacket he makes provisional sling. “I don’t know how to help you…”
“I wouldn’t be so sure… We should call my father…” With every word his voice gets weaker, he doesn’t even try to keep his eyes open at this point, he has no strength left to do so. Instead he leans his head onto other’s shoulder and mumbles.
"Call your father… he will be mad at me…but okay we can do that when we hide " He murmurs. His voice is shaking when he speaks.
“Don’t blame yourself…” For a moment he needs to close his eyes because his vision starts to sway too much making it impossible to walk. “Hiding is a good idea… but where…?”
"You know me, and you know that I will blame myself." He whispers quietly and looks around. When he notices some old apartment block he start to walk there. His good arm is around Cassidy. "There…usually there are no one in basements or attics
His voice’s strange, very quiet and very cold at the same time. He tries to walk by David’s side, even though he trips on his own legs with almost every step. “It’s not you fault… It’s not the first time…” Weakly he puts his gun back in the holster.
"I know it’s not a first time…but still…my fault." He whispers. If his right arm would work he could carry other man to their flat but it’s not working at all. "I think we should hide somewhere…"
